The Sporting Kansas City Academy announced today the addition of two head coaches to the 2023-24 Academy staff. Angel Rivillo and Lee Tschantret join the Sporting KC Academy with nearly 40 years of experience in the game of soccer between them.
Rivillo and Tschantret will lead the Sporting KC U-17s and U-19s, respectively, ahead of the upcoming season as they bring a new look to an already impressive coaching staff.

Rivillo comes to the Sporting KC Academy with over 20 years of involvement in the game of soccer as both a professional player and coach. Rivillo graduated from Creighton University with a Bachelor of Science, Computer Sciences. After competing for the Dallas Burn in Major League Soccer from 2000-2001, Rivillo played in Venezuela and France before returning to the U.S. to begin his coaching career while simultaneously continuing his playing career.
His coaching career kicked off in 2002 and has taken him to 15 different clubs and organizations at various levels. Most recently he worked with Austin FC from 2020-2023, helping to develop their residency program and build its new academy from the ground up. Rivillo holds a USSF A – Youth Soccer License and is finishing his USSF Academy Directors License.
Tschantret returns to Kansas City with almost 18 years of coaching under his belt at numerous levels and a lengthy playing career to go along with it.
Tschantret graduated from the University of Phoenix with a BA in Business Management and earned his Master of Science in Coaching Education, Recreation and Sports Science from the University of Ohio. As a player, he was a captain of the United States National Futsal Team, playing in the 2004 Indoor World Cup in Taipei and in several other prestigious tournaments. As a member of the Kansas City Attack in the National Professional Soccer League, he helped guide the team to a 1997 NPSL Championship title.
Beginning his coaching and administration career in soccer in 2004, Tschantret has run multiple leagues, clubs and academies. He is a two-time Maryland MIAA A State Champion and has been named State Coach of the Year by five different publications. The well-experienced coach was an assistant for the U-18 U.S. Men’s National Team and holds a USSF National A License.
