Sporting Kansas City Academy forward Alex Umana has joined El Salvador for the 2022 Concacaf Under-20 Championship, which will run from June 18 to July 3 in Honduras. The high-stakes competition will determine the four Concacaf representatives for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia and the two Concacaf participants at the 2024 Summer Olympics in France.
Competing in Group G, Umana and El Salvador will face Guatemala on June 19, Aruba on June 21 and Panama on June 23 at Estadio Nacional in Tegucigalpa. The top three finishers in the group will advance to the Round of 16, which will unfold on June 25-26 followed by the quarterfinals on June 28-29, the semifinals on July 1 and the final on July 3.
The tournament’s four semifinalists will punch a ticket to the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup and the two finalists will seal a place at the 2024 Olympics. El Salvador’s group stage opener against Guatemala on June 19 will air live at 3 p.m. CT on TUDN in the United States.

Umana, an 18-year-old native of Lincoln, Nebraska, recently starred at the 2022 Dallas Cup in April, where he scored goals in three consecutive games to help the El Salvador U-20s reach the final of the prestigious tournament.
Umana joined the Sporting Kansas City Academy in 2017 and has represented the club at the U-13 through U-19 levels, notably guiding the U-19s to the quarterfinals of the 2020-21 MLS NEXT Cup quarterfinals last summer and helping the U-19s return to the MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs this spring.
Umana has committed to Yale University to begin his collegiate soccer career this fall.
