Sporting Kansas City U14 Academy midfielder Cameron Duke will join the United States Under-14 Boys' National Team for a training camp in Carson, California from Oct. 11-19, U.S. Soccer announced on Thursday. The United States U14's are led by head coach Brian Johnson, a member of KC's 2000 MLS Cup team during a five-year MLS career spent in Kansas City from 1997-2001.
Duke -- an Olathe, Kansas native -- was a member of the Sporting Kansas City U14's that won Kansas State Cup and the United States Youth Soccer Regional II Tournament earlier this year. Duke took the field at the 2014 U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships in Maryland this past July, helping lead the Sporting KC squad to a 1-1 draw against eventual champions United FA 00 Elite.
The group will play a pair of intrasquad games on Oct. 15, and a third one on Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. Following the third intrasquad contest, the group will go against Academy club team Arsenal FC’s U-13/14s at 7 p.m. CT.
In March, the 13-year-old Duke participated in US Club Soccer's id2 Training Camp in Oregon. The camp brought together approximately 60 boys born in 2001 to train at the Howard M. Terpenning Recreation Complex and Nike World Headquarters.
Duke is the younger brother of Sporting Kansas City midfielder Christian Duke, who is also a product of the Sporting KC Academy. Follow @ussoccer_ynt on Twitter for updates from the upcoming training camp.
