Sporting KC Academy players earn collegiate honors

Alex Sweetin St. Louis Billikens

While the finalists for MLS' end-of-year awards have yet to be announced, Sporting KC Academy players are taking home their own hardware at the collegiate level.

St. Louis Billikens senior midfielder Alex Sweetin was named the Atlantic-10 Conference Midfielder of the Year. The Overland Park native finished the year with seven goals and seven assists. Sweetin's 21 points were enough to lead the Billikens to their first Atlantic-10 Conference regular season title since 2007. Sweetin was also named to the Atlantic-10 Conference first team after earning second team honors in 2012. The 2009 Atlantic-10 Conference Rookie of the Year finished his collegiate career with 18 goals and 22 assists in 76 games played.

Sweetin's Billikens will look to continue their strong season when they open the Atlantic-10 Conference tournament on Thursday against the UMass in Dayton, Ohio.

Jordan Rideout, a junior at the University of Missouri - Kansas City, earned first team all-conference honors for the second consecutive year (2012 in Summit League, 2013 in WAC). Rideout finished the season with seven goals in 18 games played. The Blue Valley North High School product led the Roos in goals (7), shots (58) and shots on goal (27).
