The Sporting Kansas City Academy claimed a pair of shutout victories over Texans SC Houston on Saturday at Swope Soccer Village. The U-18s kicked off the day with a 1-0 result before the U-16s won 2-0 to complete the U.S. Soccer Development Academy doubleheader.
Forward Nansel Selbol converted from the penalty spot, notching his team-leading 10th goal of the season, as the U-18s (6-4-0) maintained fifth place in the Frontier Division. Steve Tekesky tallied his fourth shutout of the campaign against a Texans SC side that had scored in each of its previous five matches.
Three points on Saturday propelled the U-16s (7-3-0) to third place in the Frontier Division. Grayson Barber scored in the 52nd and 63rd minutes, while Alex Brown became the first goalkeeper to notch a clean sheet against the Texans SC U-16s this season.
The Sporting KC Academy U-16s and U-18s have next weekend off before heading to the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, from Dec. 3-7. Each team will play three matches in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase against clubs from outside the Frontier Division.
