The Sporting Kansas City Academy went unbeaten over the weekend as the U16’s and U18’s both earned four points from two games in Dallas. The Sporting KC U16’s defeated Andromeda FC on Saturday before salvaging a tie with the Dallas Texans on Sunday, while the U18’s began with a draw against Andromeda FC and capped the weekend with a victory over the Dallas Texans.
UNDER-16
The Sporting KC U16’s (1-6-7) posted a 4-0 win over Andromeda FC (2-10-3) on Saturday for their first victory of the 2014-15 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season. Felipe Hernandez opened the scoring in the 26th minute, and just a minute later the U16’s doubled their lead through Jared Crist. Adam Collinsworth added a third on the stroke of halftime before Chase Bromstedt completed the rout late in the second half. Goalkeeper Steve Tekesky earned the shutout, and Paul Whitener, Jaylin Lindsey and Will Little each recorded an assist.
The Dallas Texans (7-3-6) took a 1-0 lead in Sunday’s match, but Hernandez scored a late equalizer for his second goal of the weekend. Ezra Armstrong provided the game-tying assist as the U16’s extended their unbeaten run to four games in 2015.
UNDER-18
Facing Andromeda FC (5-5-5) on Saturday, the Sporting KC U18’s (5-7-2) erased a halftime deficit to claim a 1-1 draw. Roman Cano fired the hosts in front after 16 minutes, but Ryan Kellog’s 49th minute strike leveled the match.
Sunday saw the U18’s pick up their first win of 2015 as Nic Jaimes and Logan Lucas found the back of the net in a 2-1 triumph over the Dallas Texans (3-6-7). Jaimes was on target in the 24th minute and Logan bagged the game-winner in the 47th. Abdel Sanogo provided a consolation goal for the hosts after 93 minutes.
