Sporting Kansas City announced today the club’s 29-player roster for Leagues Cup 2024, which will run from July 26 to Aug. 25 with three berths in the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup on the line.
Sporting’s roster for the marquee tournament consists of 25 players under MLS contract as well as four MLS NEXT Pro players available for selection from Sporting Kansas City II: Sebastian Cruz, Maouloune Goumballe, Cielo Tschantret and Pau Vidal. Per Leagues Cup rules, Sporting can make up to three roster additions during the competition and may dress up to 23 players for each match.
Sporting will host Chicago Fire FC at 8 p.m. CT on Sunday in the opening match for Group 4 of the Leagues Cup West Region. Manager Peter Vermes’ side will then welcome 10-time LIGA MX champion Deportivo Toluca FC at 8 p.m. CT on Monday, Aug. 5 in the group finale. Sporting KC II Player available for selection*
The winner of Sporting’s group will meet the winner of Group 8 of the West Region—a group that features Atlas FC, Houston Dynamo FC and Real Salt Lake—in the Round of 32, while the runner-up will visit reigning MLS Cup champions Columbus Crew on Aug. 9 at Lower.com Field. During the group stage, each team receives three points for a win in regulation and one point if the game is tied after 90 minutes, with an opportunity to earn a second point by prevailing in a penalty shootout.
