Last Sunday, the Sporting Kansas City U-13 Argyle squad claimed the US Youth Futsal Central Regional Championship crown. This marks five straight years in which this age group has taken home the title. Head Coach Jamie MacGregor, in his first full season in charge of the U-13s, secured his first Futsal Regional title, adding to the SKC Academy's legacy in the competition. This title comes just under two months after the U-13s took second place at the Cronos Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico.
"Our U-13 team had a very positive experience competing at this year's Midwest Regionals," said MacGregor. "The event was exceptionally well-organized and highlighted the fantastic talent across the region. Futsal provides our players with essential skills for individual development. It emphasizes technique, ball control, improvisation, and creativity for youth players. It places players in situations where they must adapt and be creative to navigate tight areas. Additionally, it encourages basic off the ball movement, which helps develop combination play."
Led by MacGregor, Sporting’s U-13s split into two groups, Sporting Argyle and Sporting Blue. Sporting Argely posted five results in five matches, finishing atop their group after round-robin play. Sporting Blue was unable to reach the semifinals after three competitive matches with the teams in their group. In the semifinals, the Argyle team dispatched Toca B2012 Orange 4-1 before earning the trophy with a 7-3 triumph in the finals.

Futsal is an important part of the Sporting Kansas City Academy’s soccer curriculum. For the youngest age group in the Academy, it presents a golden opportunity for the athletes to refine their technical skills between the fall and spring seasons. With the conclusion of the Futsal season, Sporting’s U-13s will resume outdoor play against talented teams from around the Midwest. The group will begin preparations for Easter International Cup in Orlando, FL, and Patterson Cup in Kansas City, MO, both taking place in April and June respectively.
