Sporting Kansas City have punched their ticket to the Audi 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs in emphatic fashion.
Manager Peter Vermes’ side secured a postseason berth on Saturday with a resolute 2-1 road win over Western Conference leaders Seattle Sounders FC at Lumen Field. Remi Walter and Johnny Russell scored early and late to seal the result, which ensures that Sporting will return to the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs for the 10th time in 11 seasons.
The 2021 MLS postseason, scheduled to begin on Nov. 20, will consist of the top seven clubs in each conference and feature a single-elimination format through MLS Cup on Dec. 11. The top-seeded teams in the East and the West will receive a first-round bye to the conference semifinals.
Currently occupying second place in the ultra-competitive West, Sporting (16-7-7, 55 points) will return to world-class Children's Mercy Park on Wednesday to host LA Galaxy. The contest will kick off at 7:55 p.m. CT with national coverage beginning at 7:30 p.m. CT on FS1 and FOX Deportes. Tickets for the high-stakes matchup are available at SeatGeek.com.
