Sporting Kansas City defender Jaylin Lindsey (pictured above, bottom right) has helped the United States Men's National Team to a pair of positive results during a week-long training camp in San Pedro del Pinatar, Spain.
The 18-year-old Sporting KC Academy product was a second-half substitute in Friday's 2-2 comeback draw against a formidable France side. Lindsey then started in today's 2-1 victory over Japan as head coach Tab Ramos' men left Pinatar Arena on a winning note.
The U-20s faced a 2-0 halftime deficit on Friday against France, but Konrad De La Fuente grabbed a goal back shortly after the restart. Lindsey entered the fray midway through the second stanza, and the Americans would grab a last-gasp equalizer courtesy of Christian Cappis to secure the draw.
Lindsey started in the final game of the training stint versus Japan. Atlanta United FC midfielder Andrew Carleton gave the U.S. their first goal in the 50th minute before Cappis, an FC Dallas Academy product who plays club soccer for Hobro IK in the Danish Superliga, bagged the 75th-minute winner.
The matches versus France and Japan will likely be the final official games for the U.S. before the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will run from May 23 – June 15 in Poland. The United States have been drawn into Group D and will face Ukraine (May 24), Nigeria (May 27) and Qatar (May 30) in the group stage of the biennial tournament.
Lindsey, who turns 19 years old on Wednesday, will now return to Sporting Kansas City ahead of Saturday's MLS home match against the Montreal Impact.
