Sporting Kansas City announced today a three-year partnership with industry leaders TRACAB to integrate advanced match analytics into the club’s broadcast productions and mobile app with real-time statistics, positional tracking data and tactical video feeds. In addition, TRACAB products and services will be utilized as a valuable asset for Sporting KC’s technical staff, including coaches and sports science personnel, for optimizing team and player performance.
“Sporting Kansas City is the first Major League Soccer club to take advantage of TRACAB’s cutting-edge approach to match analysis,” Sporting KC assistant coach Kerry Zavagnin said. “These tools give us a winning edge both on and off the field by providing our staff with real-time tactical video and positional tracking data while also showcasing the sport in a new and exciting way that will even further engage our fans.”
"Our partnership with Sporting Kansas City will provide the club with the very latest real-time tracking technology that will fuel insight for the analysis teams, but also enhance outputs across live broadcasts and digital channels for fans,” said TRACAB Director of Tracking Operations and Services, Diego Martinez Del Campo. “It's great to be working with such a like-minded organization with analysis and fan engagement at the heart of what we both do."
TRACAB’s Gen-5 camera system, recently installed at Children’s Mercy Park, captures ball and player positioning 25 times per second and within inch-point accuracy through the use of highly-advanced AI recognition and machine learning algorithms. The data and video feeds are delivered within milliseconds, providing real-time insight at deeper and richer levels for key match metrics and movements to give viewers an in-depth understanding of player activity and team dynamics.
In use at more than 300 stadiums worldwide, TRACAB is deployed across Europe’s most technologically-advanced leagues, including the Bundesliga in Germany and La Liga in Spain, as well as major FIFA competitions. The Emmy Award-winning system tracks over 3.5 million data points per match – including player sprint speeds, distances run and time on the ball – which can be visually presented with custom-branded graphics and state-of-the-art telestration.
In 2022, Sporting Kansas City fans will have unprecedented access to Sporting Kansas City match broadcasts through a new over-the-air broadcast partnership with 38 The Spot as well as, for the first time in club history, free live streams on SportingKC.com and in the Sporting KC mobile app for all non-nationally televised matches.
Led by Manager Peter Vermes and captain Johnny Russell, Sporting will begin the team's 27th season on Sunday, Feb. 27 against Atlanta United FC inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium with the earliest regular season match in club history airing nationally on FS1. The club's highly anticipated home opener arrives on Saturday, March 5 against longtime rivals Houston Dynamo FC with kick off set for 2:30 p.m. CT at Children’s Mercy Park live on Univision, TUDN and 38 The Spot.
