Ahead of Saturday's Sporting Kansas City match on the road against the Vancouver Whitecaps, Sporting KC manager and sporting director Peter Vermes talked with Soren Petro on The Program on Sports Radio 810.
On The Program, Vermes began the show by congratulating the United States Men's National Team on their qualification to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Petro and Vermes talked about the growth of the talent pool in the U.S., the success of Greg Berhalter's coaching staff and the importance of playing time at the club level when it comes to the national team.
Next, the two discussed the club's progress following the offseason. They talked about the formation change in Chicago and the growth of the newcomers in the system.
Vermes then dove into the topic of managing vs coaching and how he wears both hats at times. Vermes discusses how he works with the media and how he builds teams up while still challenging them to be better. He talked about the group Sporting has and his expectations going forward.
After that, Vermes praised Tim Melia's performance in last Saturday's win against Real Salt Lake. That turned into a preview of Sporting's upcoming schedule. Vermes mentioned his belief that there are no easy matches in MLS and that every match is a chance to get points.
The Program concluded with Petro's Final Four, as he asked Vermes four final questions. Fans can listen to Vermes on The Program with Soren Petro here and can tune in to 38 The Spot on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT to watch Sporting KC take on Vancouver Whitecaps.
