Sporting Kansas City midfielder Erik Thommy was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday presented by Audi on Monday as one of the top 11 players in Major League Soccer for Matchday 9 of the regular season.
Making his 50th career regular season start for the club, Thommy scored twice in Saturday's 3-2 loss to Inter Miami CF. The 29-year-old German opened the scoring with a superb shot in the sixth minute then leveled the score at 2-2 in the 58th minute with a stunning volley that is nominated for MLS Goal of the Matchday.
Thommy, who has appeared in 54 straight regular season matches since making his debut in July 2022, now has a team-leading three goals this season.
Sporting Kansas City will host cross-state rivals St. Louis CITY SC at 7:30 p.m. CT on Saturday at Children's Mercy Park.
