For a second straight week, Sporting Kansas City midfielder Erik Thommy was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday presented by Audi on Monday as one of the top 20 players in Major League Soccer for Matchday 10 of the regular season.
After bagging a brace against Inter Miami CF a week ago, the 29-year-old German playmaker scored again on Saturday in Sporting's 3-3 draw with rivals St. Louis CITY SC. Center back Andreu Fontas drove a line-breaking ball in behind for Thommy, who timed his attacking run brilliantly and buried his shot past Roman Burki into the top right corner in the 77th minute.
Thommy, who has appeared in 55 straight regular season matches since making his debut in July 2022, now has a team-leading four goals this season.
After a three-match homestand, Sporting Kansas City is now set to play three straight away matches beginning this Saturday against Minnesota United FC. Kick off is set for 7:30 p.m. CT at Allianz Field in St. Paul and the Western Conference match-up will stream live on Apple TV for MLS Season Pass subscribers.
