Sporting KC midfielder Erik Thommy talks his arrival in Kansas City on 610 Sports Radio's The Nutmeg Podcast

Sporting Kansas City midfielder Erik Thommy joined Rob Brenton on The Nutmeg Podcast to discuss a wide array of topics before Sporting KC's match against the LA Galaxy on Sunday. Thommy and Brenton discuss his move to Kansas City and the future of Sporting KC as well as the contract extension of Daniel Salloi.

Thommy had a standout week, earning a spot on the MLS Team of the Week presented by Audi for his performance in Sporting's 1-0 win over San Jose last Saturday. Thommy has been nominated for AT&T Goal of the Week as well, after making five starts for the club.

Brenton begins the show lauding Thommy, as well as Willy Agada's impact on the club in their brief stints with the team. He mentions the recent run of form for Sporting in which they have picked up three wins in four matches and how these performances should be indicators of the future of the club.

When Thommy joins the show, Brenton asks him about his transition to America. After spending his entire career in his home country of Germany, Thommy joined up with Sporting in July and mentions that it has been a period of adjusting and learning about Major League Soccer and Kansas City.

When the midfielder joined Sporting in the summer transfer window it was the offseason in the German Bundesliga. Brenton asks him about the difficulties of joining a team in the middle of the season to which Tommy tells him that there was a lot of hard work to get ready to play. Thommy shouts out his teammates and says that they really helped him in all aspects when he got here.

Thommy goes into the onfield performances next, discussing Manager and Sporting Director Peter Vermes' message to him and to the club. A lot of small things were not going Sporting's way for a while and after making adjustments the offense has come to life.

One of the final pieces Brenton brings up is Thommy's leadership ability. He tells Thommy that he has been seen as a leader since joining the club and he says that everything is for the team. Thommy wants to lead by example and do whatever he can to help his teammates and win as many matches as possible.

The final question is about forward Daniel Salloi's new contract extension which was announced Wednesday by Sporting KC. Thommy has only compliments for Salloi saying that he deserves it and looks forward to having him on the left wing for years to come.
