Sporting Kansas City will throw it back to 1996 this Sunday in their annual retro night match against the Portland Timbers. The match will begin at 6:30 p.m. CT, will air on FS1 and tickets are on sale at SeatGeek.com with lots of festivities taking place throughout the day.
Kicking off the weekend is the Since ’96 Kickback from 6-9 p.m. CT on Friday at Up-Down on Southwest Blvd in the Crossroads. Fans in Sporting gear will receive 20 free tokens to use on Up-Down’s famous arcade games while throwback Sporting KC matches are shown on the TVs.
Attendees can enter to win various prizes by scanning a QR code and filling out the information. Winners will be announced every 30 minutes with prizes including SportingStyle Retro Collection gear along with two tickets to the match, an Up-Down tank top and much more. Guests must be 21 or older to enter Up-Down.
Friday will also be Sporting fans’ first opportunity to purchase SportingStyle Retro Collection attire in person. This year’s collection includes hats, scarves, shirts and shorts. All Retro Collection items will be available for purchase at Sunday’s match and online at SportingStyle.com.
Sunday, Sporting will take on Western Conference combatants, the Portland Timbers at Children’s Mercy Park. Gates open at 5 p.m. CT. The Mazuma Plaza will feature the music styling of Crossroad Sound, pictures with The Photo Bus and WeSpin360 until kickoff.
The Retro Night theme will be present in various videos of Sporting KC players trying things from the 90s and participating in movie trivia. Crossroad Sound will keep the party rolling in the Budweiser Brew House post-match for 90 minutes.
