Sporting KC Show Podcast: Gianluca Busio reflects on Concacaf U-17 Championship

The Sporting KC Show Podcast, dropping throughout the season on Sports Radio 810 WHB, is now available on Spotify and iTunes. With Nate Bukaty and Carter Augustine hosting the weekly program, Sporting fans now have a place to go to catch up on club storylines, player achievements, guest interviews and more.

One of the most dominant players at the 2019 Concacaf U-17 Championship was the star the Sporting Kansas City Show Podcast on Tuesday night.

Less than a week removed from leading the United States U-17 Men's National Team to a second-place finish at he tournament with five goals and three assists in six appearances, midfielder Gianluca Busio joined hosts Nate Bukaty and Carter Augustine for a catch-up interview.

The 16-year-old Sporting KC Academy product reflected on an action-packed two-week stint in Bradenton, Florida, where he and club teammate Tyler Freeman helped the Americans qualify for the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup this fall in Brazil. Guided by head coach Raphael Wicky, the USA stormed to last Thursday's final and outplayed Mexico for extended periods, only to fall 2-1 in extra time.

However, Busio believes the heartbreaking defeat will make the USA U-17s that much more determined to go a step further later this year in Brazil. He is also confident of translating the experience into continued success with Sporting, where he has become one of three players in MLS history to bag four career goals before his 17th birthday.

Bukaty and Augustine also welcomed Sporting Kansas City's venerable Kit Man, known by some as Mike Flaherty. The club's longtime equipment manager shared the fascinating story of his professional journey from Montana to Florida to Kansas City while also describing how his job has changed over the course of his 11-year tenure at Sporting.
