The Sporting KC Show Podcast, dropping throughout the season on Sports Radio 810 WHB, is now available on Spotify and iTunes. With Nate Bukaty, Jacob Peterson and Carter Augustine hosting the weekly program, Sporting fans have a place to go to catch up on club storylines, player achievements, guest interviews and more.
Mexican striker Alan Pulido prodded home an expert header, Israeli midfielder Gadi Kinda dropped jaws with an MLS Goal of the Week nominee and forward Erik Hurtado came off the bench to bag a lethal volley and seal all three points.
But the most magical bit of skill in Sporting Kansas City's 3-1 defeat of Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday at BC Place? That just might have been Gerso Fernandes' magisterial Maradona move to set up Hurtado's clincher in the 95th minute of a thrilling Week 1 contest in British Columbia.
As Sporting's first substitute on Saturday, Gerso helped provide the knockout blow to begin his fourth MLS season on a high note. Three days later, he was the headline guest on a new episode of The Sporting KC Show Podcast as a roundtable of four hosts—Nate Bukaty, Jacob Peterson, Carter Augustine and Aly Trost—revisited the Vancouver game, broke down Gerso's dazzling assist to Hurtado, discussed Sporting's impressive squad depth and talked to the African winger about fatherhood and his fast-growing son G.J.
"Everything happened so fast," Gerso said of his skillful move to split the defense inside the box and feed Hurtado for an emphatic finish. "I didn't even have time to think about it, I just saw that the ball was going away from me, and I felt that (move) would be the easiest way for me to get it and (move) around the defender. It was too fast for me to think about it, and I'm glad Erik Hurtado helped me to give even more emphasis to the situation."
Tuesday's episode also saved ample time to preview Sporting's highly anticipated and long-awaited home opener against the Houston Dynamo, which will kick off Saturday at 7:30 p.m. CT with live coverage on FOX Sports Kansas City, FOX Sports Midwest Plus, FOX Sports GO, Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Grande 1340 AM.

With a momentum-building road triumph in the books, Gerso was one of several players to participate in Sporting KC Media Day on Tuesday inside the newly modernized Wise Power Shield Club at Children's Mercy Park. His team will undoubtedly be relishing Saturday's showdown versus Houston, as Sporting will return to the Blue Hell for the first time since late September of last year. Tickets for the contest remain available at SeatGeek.com and the first 10,000 fans through the stadium gates will receive a free rally towel courtesy of match sponsor UMB Bank.
