Sporting Kansas City forward Alan Pulido was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday on Tuesday for Matchday 30 of the 2023 campaign. Pulido scored twice in Sporting's 2-1 win over first-place St. Louis CITY SC on Saturday in front of a record-setting regular season crowd of 21,650 fans at Children's Mercy Park.
After missing all of the 2022 season due to knee surgery, Pulido continued his MLS Comeback Player of the Year campaign with his fourth brace in the past 10 matches. The Mexican striker has been in red-hot form this summer with an MLS-best 11 goals since the start of June and the World Cup veteran is now fourth in the MLS Golden Boot race with a dozen MLS goals in 2023.
In his fourth season with the club, Pulido now has 26 goals in 55 regular season games to move atop Sporting's all-time goals per game chart.
"I feel very happy for these two goals...because the last year was very difficult for me. Now when I come back this year and I score, now, two goals, the sensation for me, it's very good," Pulido said in the postgame press conference. "I feel very happy for the team and also for me, because I work very strong and I work for this moment on the field and I am very happy for this moment."
Sporting Kansas City now prepares to play Leagues Cup 2023 champions Inter Miami CF for the first time at 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. The cross-conference clash will be broadcast live on Apple TV in English and Spanish for MLS Season Pass subscribers. Local radio coverage will air on Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Grande 1340 AM with streams in the Sporting KC app, while pub partners in the Sporting Pub Network will show all of the action including an enhanced watch party at The Brooksider.
