Sporting Kansas City will play two matches at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Arizona, this week to close out the club's 2018 preseason, presented by Children's Mercy. Manager Peter Vermes' men continue their Mobile Mini Sun Cup campaign against the New England Revolution at noon CT on Wednesday before wrapping up the preseason tournament with a placement game on Saturday at a time to be determined. Both contests will stream live on SportingKC.com and the team's Facebook page. Sporting KC improved its preseason record to 4-0-1 with a 2-1 victory over Phoenix Rising FC on Saturday.
Led by first-year head coach Paulo Nagamura, the Swope Park Rangers will resume their preseason preparations on Saturday with a friendly against Creighton University at 3:30 p.m. CT inside Swope Soccer Village. The scrimmage is free and open to the public, and live updates will be available on Twitter via @SwopeRangers.
All supporters are invited to attend Sporting KC’s “For Glory. For City.” Season Launch Party presented by Ivy Investments on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at Children’s Mercy Park. Held in partnership with adidas and Bud Light, the Season Launch Party is free and open to the public. Fans planning to attend the event can RSVP at SportingKC.com/RSVP.
Tickets for Sporting KC's season opener versus New York City FC on March 4 are now on sale via SeatGeek.com. The highly anticipated curtain raiser will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT inside world-class Children's Mercy Park, pitting the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup champions against Spanish striker David Villa and an NYCFC side that finished second in the Supporters' Shield standings last year.
The Sporting KC Academy U-15s and U-17s will play their final matches in the preliminary phase of the 2017-18 Generation adidas Cup this morning at StubHub Center in Carson, California. The U-17s currently occupy first place in the West Region of GA Cup qualifying and can clinch a spot in tournament's Championship Division with a win or draw today against Seattle Sounders FC. The flagship GA Cup event will take place in April in Frisco, Texas, featuring elite academy clubs from around the world.
The Sporting KC Academy has also sent seven teams to compete in the U.S. Youth Futsal National Championships, which conclude today at three venues in the southern Kansas City area.
Swope Soccer Village will host a U.S. Soccer Development Academy tripleheader on Saturday when the Sporting KC U-15s, U-17s and U-19s host the Colorado Rush. Follow the Sporting KC Academy on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat (skcacademy) for all the latest information on the club's five youth development teams.
Sporting KC and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City are teaming up once again in 2018 to recognize Blue KC Sporting Samaritans, honoring students and teachers who make the Kansas City community a better place to live, work and play. Once a month, a Samaritan will be recognized on the pitch at Children's Mercy Park before a Sporting KC home game. The Samaritan and a limited number of guests will receive a behind the scenes VIP experience with a wide variety of all-inclusive perks. Supporters can nominate a community member to be the next Blue KC Sporting Samaritan at SportingKC.com/bluekc.
