Sporting Kansas City (15-8-7, 52 points) kept hold of second place in the Western Conference following a 1-1 draw with Real Salt Lake on Sunday. Manager Peter Vermes' men can clinch a club-record eighth straight playoff berth with a win or draw this Saturday when Sporting KC hosts Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the seventh-place LA Galaxy (12-11-8, 44 points) at Children's Mercy Park. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. CT, and a limited number of tickets remain available via SeatGeek.com. The first 7,500 fans through the stadium gates will receive a free license plate cover courtesy of match sponsor US Bank, and Sporting KC Uphoria users will receive an exclusive offer for free Nabisco snack crackers at any Kansas City-area Price Chopper location.
FOX Sports Kansas City and FOX Sports Midwest will air three hours of live coverage on Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. CT, while listeners can follow the action on Sports Radio 810 WHB (English) and ESPN Deportes KC 1480 AM (Spanish). Viewers within the FOX Sports Midwest television footprint can stream the game live on FOX Sports GO, and fans elsewhere across the U.S. can catch a live stream on ESPN+. The Final Whistle Postgame Show will air immediately after the match on 810 WHB.
SportingStyle has reopened matchday pre-orders for pickup at Saturday's game between Sporting KC and LA. Fans can shop a limited assortment of items between now and Saturday, including the new scarf of the match. The SportingStyle Pop-In Store is also open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Budweiser Brew House at Children's Mercy Park. A new episode of The Sporting KC Show will air at 6 p.m. CT Wednesday with hosts Nate Bukaty and Carter Augustine. The duo will recap another weekend of MLS action and look ahead to Saturday's showdown game at Children's Mercy Park as Sporting KC aims to punch its ticket to the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs.
The two-time defending USL Western Conference champion Swope Park Rangers (14-10-8, 50 points) can secure a third straight playoff berth Wednesday when the club visits Sacramento Republic FC (16-7-8, 56 points) at Papa Murphy's Park. The game will kick off at 9:30 p.m. CT with a live stream on ESPN+. SPR currently occupies seventh place in the West, four points above the playoff line, and the top eight teams will advance to the postseason beginning Oct. 19-21.
The Victory Project and Sporting KC will host Celebrity Bartending on Thursday at No Other Pub in the Kansas City Power & Light District (1370 Grand Blvd.). Sporting KC players Graham Zusi, Ike Opara, Yohan Croizet, Kharlton Belmar, Brad Evans, Graham Smith and Eric Dick will be in attendance to serve drinks, play games and interact with supporters, and funds raised through the event will go to The Victory Project in its mission to help children and families in the fight against cancer and other serious illnesses. No Other Pub will offer happy hour specials from 4-7 p.m. CT, including $1 tacos, $2 off appetizers, $4 domestic draft beers and $4 select call cocktails, before Sporting KC players bartend and play games from 7-9 p.m. CT.
The Sporting KC Academy U-15s and U-17s will venture to BMO Training Ground in Toronto this weekend for 2018-19 Generation adidas Cup regional qualifying. The U-17s will kick off Group B play on Friday, facing perennial powerhouse FC Dallas at 1:30 p.m. CT, before rounding out the group stage against Columbus Crew SC at 1:30 p.m. CT Saturday and the Montreal Impact at 1 p.m. CT next Monday. The U-15s have also been placed in Group B at their age level, battling Toronto FC at 8:30 a.m. CT Friday, the Houston Dynamo at 8:30 a.m. CT Saturday and Columbus Crew SC next Monday at 11 a.m. CT.
Sporting KC forward Khiry Shelton will appear at an AT&T Store meet and greet from 4:30-6 p.m. CT Sunday in Olathe, Kansas (11971 S Blackbob Rd.). Fans of all ages are welcome to attend for autographs and photo opportunities.
