Sporting Kansas City (14-13-7, 49 pts) will begin their 2014 MLS Cup Playoffs campaign against the New York Red Bulls (13-10-11, 50 pts) at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. in the Eastern Conference Knockout Round. The rematch of Sunday's regular season finale at Sporting Park will air live on ESPN2 (English), ESPN Deportes (Spanish) and WatchESPN (online).
The winner will advance to host No. 1 seed D.C. United at 3 p.m. CT on Sunday in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Tickets for the potential home playoff match at Sporting Park are currently available via Ticketmaster.com.
On Tuesday, MLSsoccer.com will launch voting for 2014 MLS Goal of the Year and 2014 MLS Save of the Year. Graham Zusi (Week 20, Week 31) and Dom Dwyer (Week 4) each won MLS Goal of the Week during the regular season. Eric Kronberg (Week 9), Jon Kempin (Week 22, Week 23) and Andy Gruenebaum (Week 31) all collected MLS Save of the Week honors in 2014.
On Thursday, Major League Soccer is expected to announce a new club and ownership group for the Los Angeles market that will begin play in 2017. MLS announced earlier today that Chivas USA has ceased operations, as well as conference realignment that will send Sporting KC and the Houston Dynamo to the Western Conference in 2015 due to the addition of Orlando City SC and New York City FC in the East.
The MLS social media team is giving away a signed MLS All-Star jersey or signed MLS All-Star ball to the grand prize winner of this week's #MLSPumpkin carving contest. Fans who follow @MLS and use the hashtag #MLSPumpkin with a photo of their MLS-themed pumpkin on Twitter or Instagram before 12:59 p.m. CT on Thursday will be entered to win.
Sporting Kansas City and Sabates Eye Centers have teamed up in October for the Better Vision sweepstakes. One winner will receive either a $500 gift certificate to Sabates Eye Centers' Optical Centers and $500 worth of contacts OR one free basic LASIK procedure. In addition, the winner will also receive two co-branded t-shirts, two tickets to a Sporting KC home match (based on availability), one VIP parking pass, a pregame tour of Sporting Park and on-field access during warm-ups. The sweepstakes ends at 11:59 p.m. CT on Friday.
