Four days after lifting the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup title, Sporting Kansas City (12-6-11, 47 points) completed a superb week on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over LA Galaxy to move within a point of first place in Major League Soccer's Western Conference. Manager Peter Vermes' men will now prepare for a pivotal showdown with first-place Vancouver Whitecaps FC, set for 8 p.m. CT Saturday at Children's Mercy Park. Tickets for the high-profile encounter are on sale at SeatGeek.com as Sporting KC looks to extend a club-record 24-game home unbeaten run in the MLS regular season, the third-longest streak in league history.
FOX Sports Kansas City Plus and FOX Sports Midwest Plus will air three hours of live coverage on Saturday night, beginning with the Boulevard Pregame Show at 7:30 p.m. CT. Listeners can follow the action on Sports Radio 810 WHB (English) and La Grande 1340 AM (Spanish), while the Sporting KC Uphoria mobile app will provide live updates. In addition, the Final Whistle postgame show will air immediately after the match on 810 WHB.
A new episode of the Sporting KC Show will air Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. CT on Sports Radio 810 WHB. Hosts Nate Bukaty, Carter Augustine and Jillian Carroll will recap Sporting KC's phenomenal week, discussing the victorious 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final, before previewing this weekend's contest against Vancouver and handicapping the Western Conference race.
The Swope Park Rangers earned a 3-1 win at Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Saturday to clinch a berth in the USL Cup Playoffs for the second straight year. The Rangers (15-7-6, 51 points), who sit fourth in the Western Conference standings with four regular-season games remaining, return home Wednesday to host LA Galaxy II (7-16-5, 26 points) at Children's Mercy Victory Field inside Swope Soccer Village. Kickoff is slated or 7:30 p.m. CT and tickets can be purchased at SeatGeek.com or at the venue box office on matchday.
To round out the week, SPR will travel to H.E.B. Park in Edinburg, Texas this Saturday to face Rio Grande Valley FC (9-13-7, 34 points) at 7:30 p.m. CT. Both Rangers matches will stream live on SportingKC.com.
The Sporting Kansas City Academy U-15s, U-17s and U-19s will play their home openers in the 2017-18 U.S. Soccer Development Academy on Sunday at Swope Soccer Village. The tripleheader against Lonestar SC (Texas) kicks off at 11 a.m. CT with the U-15s, followed by the U-17s at 1:30 p.m. and the U-19s at 4 p.m. Follow @SKCAcademy on Twitter for live updates Sunday and throughout the Development Academy campaign.
