Sporting KC Weekly Update: May 20, 2015

SPORTING KC HOSTS NEW ENGLAND TONIGHT, TRAVELS TO FACE SEATTLE ON SATURDAY
Sporting Kansas City will play twice in four days this week as the team begins a stretch of the schedule in which their next five regular season matches all feature opponents from the 2014 MLS Cup Playoffs.

Tonight, Sporting KC (3-2-5, 6th place) will host MLS Cup finalists New England Revolution (5-2-4, 2nd place) at 7 p.m. CT at Sporting Park in a nationally televised match on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes. The match will also be broadcast locally on Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Grande 1340. A limited number of tickets are available via Ticketmaster.com and the first 10,000 fans inside the stadium will receive Sporting KC sunglasses courtesy of Sabates Eye Centers.

Sporting KC is 3-0-2 against Eastern Conference opposition this year and will seek redemption against a New England side that swept the three-game regular season series in 2014, including a 3-2 result at Sporting Park on Sept. 26. The Revolution enter tonight on a nine-game unbeaten run, three shy of a club record, after losing their opening two fixtures of the season.

The team then travels to Seattle to take on the reigning Supporters' Shield and U.S. Open Cup champions Sounders FC (6-3-1, 3rd place) at 9 p.m. CT on Saturday at CenturyLink Field. The match will be televised locally on KMCI-TV 38 the Spot and across the Midwest on SKCTV with three hours of coverage beginning at 8:30 p.m. CT.

SPORTING KC AND COLORADO RESCHEDULE MATCH FOR OCT. 21 AT SPORTING PARK
Saturday’s regular season match between Sporting KC and the Colorado Rapids, postponed prior to kickoff due to inclement weather, was rescheduled by Major League Soccer on Tuesday and will be played at 7:30 p.m. CT on Oct. 21 at Sporting Park.

All previously purchased tickets will be valid for the rescheduled match per club ticket policies. Sporting KC Season Ticket Members and group ticket holders may call 888-4KC-GOAL with inquiries. Individuals who purchased tickets for the match via Ticketmaster.com may contact Ticketmaster at 800-653-8000 with questions.

Saturday’s match was the first in stadium history to be postponed until a later date due to weather and only the team’s second MLS match all-time to be rescheduled as a result of unplayable conditions. In 1998, a match between the then Kansas City Wizards and D.C. United at Arrowhead Stadium was suspended in the 53rd minute and replayed in its entirety more than a month later.

Sporting KC has recalled defender Saad Abdul-Salaam from his loan spell with the San Antonio Scorpions, the club announced on Tuesday. Abdul-Salaam will be available for selection tonight when Sporting Kansas City hosts the New England Revolution at 7 p.m. CT at Sporting Park.

The 23-year-old rookie was selected 12th overall in the first round of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft out of the University of Akron, where he scored three goals and added 12 assists in 54 games over three seasons.
