The 2013 MLS regular season came to a close last weekend, and with that came the final power rankings of the 2013 regular season.
It's tough to argue with the placement of Supporters' Shield champion New York Red Bulls at the top spot. That was an easy decision for the folks at MLSsoccer.com, ESPN.com and SI.com.
But the placement of Sporting KC, however, remains a hot topic of debate. Over at MLSsoccer.com and ESPN.com, the respective voters put Sporting KC No. 3 in their ranking.
According to MLSsoccer.com's Matt Doyle: "Never really hit the heights some expected this year, but they've won six of their last eight, with only one loss (a game they dominated) in that time. The defense is championship worthy."
That defense that Doyle references, led the league for the second consecutive year with a paltry 30 goals allowed.
ESPN.com's Jeffrey Carlisle agrees with Doyle's assessment of the defense: "SKC made a brave run at the Supporters Shield only to fall just short. No matter, after experiencing playoff disappointment the last two years, Peter Vermes' side is focused on MLS Cup. The defense looks sharp, but questions linger about KC's offense."
At SI.com, Avi Creditor kept the top six of his teams the same from the previous week, including Sporting KC at No. 4. Creditor wrote: "Playing against a desperate opponent in enemy territory, Sporting KC held it together and walked out of PPL Park with a hard-earned 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union to enter the playoffs as winners of six of their last eight games."
So what do you think SKC Nation? Do you agree with the 3/4 ranking of Sporting KC, or do you think your club should be higher?
