Gerso Fernandes' left-footed curler sealed Sporting Kansas City's 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake on Wednesday and culminated a dreamy passing sequence that clocked in at nearly a minute and saw all 11 Sporting players touch the ball.
Not too surprisingly, the wonderfully worked scoring play has Gerso among the candidates for AT&T Goal of the Week. Fan voting is open through Saturday at 8 a.m. CT.
Gerso came off the bench in the 84th minute of Wednesday's contest and made his mark just two minutes later to open his 2020 scoring account in style. The 2-0 victory vaulted Sporting to first place in Group D of the MLS is Back Tournament and atop the Western Conference standings ahead of the Knockout Stage presented by Audi.
Sporting will now prepare for a win-or-go-home Round of 16 clash against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Sunday night. Kickoff from Walt Disney World is slated for 10 p.m. CT with live coverage on FS1, FOX Deportes, TUDN, the FOX Sports app, Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Grande 1340 AM.
