The Swope Park Rangers have added goalkeeper Christian Herrera to the club’s roster ahead of the 2018 USL season, pending league and federation approval. Herrera has spent time with teams in both the United States and Mexico, while also representing each country’s Youth National Teams.
Herrera signed with USL side Real Monarchs SLC out of Real Salt Lake’s Arizona-based Academy in 2015 and was loaned to Mexican giants Pachuca in 2016. The 20-year-old made five total appearances for Pachuca’s reserve team that plays in Mexico’s second division: two in the 2016 Apertura and three in the 2016 Clausura.
Upon returning to Salt Lake City at the completion of his loan stint in Mexico, Herrera spent the 2017 season on loan with Portland Timbers 2, but did not make an appearance for the club.
Herrera competed for three seasons with the Real Salt Lake-Arizona Academy, appearing twice in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy National Championship and once in the Generation adidas Cup Final.
On the international scene, Herrera has represented both the U.S. and Mexico at the U-18 and U-20 levels.
