The Swope Park Rangers have added versatile defender Mark Segbers to the squad ahead of the 2019 season, the club announced today. The signing is pending league and federation approval.
Segbers, 22, was selected in the First Round of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft (Ninth Overall) by the New England Revolution and signed with the club last February. Segbers made his MLS debut on Oct. 18, 2018, coming on at halftime of a 4-1 road defeat against Real Salt Lake. He also tallied his lone goal for the Revolution in a 3-2 loss on the road to Louisville City in the Fourth Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on June 5, 2018.
The St. Louis, Missouri native spent the majority of the 2018 season on loan to USL Championship side Orange County SC, recording two goals and four assists in 19 appearances for the number one seed in the Western Conference. He made his professional debut on March 17, 2018 and scored his first professional goals with a brace against LA Galaxy II on April 7, 2018.
Collegiately, Segbers attended the University of Wisconsin and earned United Soccer Coaches DI National Scholar Player of the Year and MAC Player of the Year honors, in addition to a pair of First Team All-American selections from the United Soccer Coaches and College Soccer News. Segbers was a four-year starter at Wisconsin, tallying 16 goals and 22 assists in 77 appearances.
