The Swope Park Rangers continue their quest for the USL Cup this Sunday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. when the side hosts Orange County Blues FC at Swope Soccer Village in the Western Conference Semifinals.
The Rangers advanced to the semifinal stage following a 3-0 victory over LA Galaxy II in the Western Conference Quarterfinals at Swope Soccer Village on Friday. Kris Tyrpak scored the game-winner in the 76th minute before two stoppage-time goals from leading scorer Mark Anthony Gonzalez sealed the win for SPR.
Orange County reached the semifinals after defeating the West's number one seed, Sacramento Republic FC, at Bonney Field on Saturday night. After both regulation and extra time ended goalless, the Blues held their nerve in a penalty shootout, scoring all five of their spot kicks and winning 5-4.
The Rangers (#4) are the highest remaining seed in the Western Conference, following the elimination of Sacramento Republic FC (#1), Rio Grande Valley FC (#2) and Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (#3) in the Quarterfinals. Should SPR win on Sunday, the side will host the winner of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 (#6) vs. OKC Energy FC (#7) matchup (Oct. 8, 2 p.m. CT) in the Western Conference Final.
