Sporting Kansas City enjoyed a comfortable victory on Saturday, defeating Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2-0 thanks to goals from Jacob Peterson and Benny Feilhaber. The two were recognized for their influential performances on Monday, landing MLS Team of the Week honors from separate outlets.
Feilhaber was named to MLSsoccer.com's Team of the Week on the heels of a one-goal, one-assist outing. He helped set up Peterson's opening goal in the 39th minute with a corner kick, then converted a penalty in the 64th minute to seal the result. Feilhaber now has a team-best seven MLS assists, including three in his last four games, to go along with six league goals.
ESPNFC tabbed Peterson among its Best XI for Week 24 after the industrious forward netted his fourth goal of the season, tying an MLS career-high. Peterson also had game-highs in shots (four) and shots on goal (three) as Sporting Kansas City moved into a tie for fourth place in the Western Conference.
Sporting Kansas City will take the field twice this week, embarking on a two-game road trip that begins Tuesday at Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League. The group stage clash will kick off at 9 p.m. CT with a live stream on CONCACAF's Facebook page. Peter Vermes' men will then travel 3,000 miles to face the Philadelphia Union on Saturday at Talen Energy Stadium, with kickoff set for 6 p.m. CT on 38 The Spot, SKCTV and Sports Radio 810 WHB.
