One defender represented Sporting Kansas City on MLSsoccer.com’s Team of the Week for the fourth time this season.
Center back Ike Opara was selected as one of Week 16’s best performers on Monday as Western Conference leaders Sporting Kansas City obtained a 0-0 draw Saturday in San Jose that extend their unbeaten streak to four games in all competitions.
Opara, who scored a goal three days earlier in a 4-0 win over Minnesota United FC, made his 15th start of 2017 on Saturday and helped Sporting KC preserve 60 percent possession while completing 66 of 75 passes. He also won five duels and added eight recoveries. Sporting KC has earned a shutout in nine of Opara’s 15 MLS starts this season.
Sporting Kansas City will now head back to California for Saturday’s MLS clash with the LA Galaxy at StubHub Center. Kickoff is set for 9:30 p.m. CT, live on FOX Sports Kansas City and FOX Sports Midwest.
