Following the largest intra-league trade in MLS history, a Dom Dwyer-led Orlando City FC headlines three different nationally televised matches between Saturday and Sunday.
With potent offenses, Gold Cup members returning and manager debuts, you won’t want to miss a second of this weekend’s MLS action.
Atlanta United FC vs. Orlando City FC | 3:30 p.m. CT Saturday, FOX & FOX Deportes
In a rematch from just last weekend, Orlando City FC will be the road team this time around and take on an Atlanta United squad that won the previous matchup 1-0. Orlando City might have a new look for this weekend, as it marks the first time that Dom Dwyer will don a purple uniform since playing for the then-USL club on loan in 2013. Atlanta United will be a tough opponent for Dwyer and company, as they are riding a four-game winning streak in MLS action.
LA Galaxy vs. Seattle Sounders FC | 9 p.m. CT Saturday, ESPN & ESPN Deportes
This morning, LA Galaxy announced that Sigi Schmid will take over as head coach, effective immediately. The club’s attempt to turn things around comes at the end of a long five-week stretch, which saw the Galaxy lose seven consecutive matches in all competitions plus friendlies. Schmid’s attempt to earn the club’s first win since June 21 will come against a Seattle Sounders club that has come away with 10 points in its last five matches and could welcome back forwards Clint Dempsey and Jordan Morris from the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Toronto FC vs. New York City FC | 1 p.m. CT Sunday, ESPN & ESPN Deportes
These two Eastern Conference powerhouses will come together for the second time in as many weeks, with the previous match ending after an 89th-minute Toronto penalty kick stunned the NYCFC crowd, and ended the match in an exciting 2-2 draw. Toronto sits atop the Eastern Conference standings with 40 points, with NYCFC two spots behind them with 37 points. With the potential to cause some drama at the top of the standings, this one is a must-watch.
