Liga MX outfit Toluca announced on Monday they have dismissed manager Hernan Cristante ahead of their Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 second leg match against Sporting Kansas City.
Cristante, 49, had been in charge of Toluca since 2016 and is a club legend, having made over 400 appearances as a goalkeeper between 1993-2010. But Toluca are off to a poor run in the 2019 Clausura in Liga MX, sitting in 15th place with just seven points after eight matches and lost their last two league games by a combined score of 7-0.
The first leg of the Champions League series against Sporting likely did him no favors, either, as the hosts blasted Toluca 3-0 in the first leg last week at Children's Mercy Park.
The second leg of the series will take place on Thursday, as Toluca host Sporting at the Estadio Nemesio Diez on Thursday (9 p.m. CT | YahooSports.com, UDN).
