United States, Haiti learn opponents for Copa America Centenario

CONCACAF and CONMEBOL announced the draw for the 2016 Copa America Centenario that will be held this summer in 10 venues across the United States. Venue passes are now on sale for all 10 venues and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com.


As host nation, the United States Men’s National Team were the top seed in Group A and were one of four seeded teams along with Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. The U.S MNT will open Copa America on June 3 against Colombia at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. They will then play Costa Rica at Soldier Field in Chicago on June 7 before playing their final Group Stage match on June 11 against Paraguay at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.


Sporting Kansas City teammates Matt Besler and Graham Zusi have combined for 57 appearances for the U.S. MNT since the beginning of 2013. Besler most recently played 180 minutes for the U.S. MNT in two January Camp matches against Iceland and Canada.


One other Sporting KC player who could feature at this summer’s Copa America is Soni Mustivar. The Haitian midfielder has nine international appearances and played 59 minutes for Les Grenadiers on Jan. 8 as Haiti defeated Trinidad and Tobago 1-0 to qualify for the 2016 Centennial Copa America.


Haiti was drawn into Group B alongside Peru (June 4), Brazil (June 8), Ecuador (June 12). This will be Haiti’s first appearance at Copa America.


The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals. The championship match will be held on June 26 in at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. For more information on the tournament, visit www.ca2016.com or follow @CA2016 on Twitter.
