Sporting Kansas City will travel to Houston for the first of three regular season meetings in 2015 when the Western Conference rivals match up at 7:30 p.m. CT on Saturday at BBVA Compass Stadium. The Dynamo, under new head coach Owen Coyle, are level with Sporting KC in fifth place with nine points after seven games.
Saturday's match will air live on KMCI-TV 38 the Spot locally and on SKCTV across the Midwest with three hours of on-site coverage beginning at 7 p.m. CT. Radio broadcasts will also be available on Sports Radio 810 WHB (English) and La Grande 1340 AM (Spanish).
A new episode of The Sporting KC Show will air on Sports Radio 810 WHB from 7-8 p.m. CT on Tuesday. Hosts Nate Bukaty, Andy Gruenebaum and Carter Augustine will discuss all the latest news in Major League Soccer and fans can join the discussion by calling 913-3-810-810. The station will also air The Final Whistle: Sporting KC Postgame Show immediately following Saturday's away match.
Also on Tuesday, Sporting Kansas City midfielder Connor Hallisey will make a special appearance at West Middle School (2600 North 44th St.) in Kansas City, Kansas from 1:30-3 p.m. CT to kick off the team's new growSTEM program. Sporting KC partnered with Black & Veatch to launch a series of summer camps at Kansas City, Kansas middle schools to enhance interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) among students in grades 6-8.
Four Sporting KC players -- Luis Marin, Marcel de Jong, Tim Melia and Servando Carrasco -- will assist with Sporting Kansas City's Recycle Your Game clinic from 5:30-7 p.m. CT on Wednesday at 9th and Van Brunt in Kansas City, Missouri. The Victory Project and Sporting Club Network have collected new and gently used soccer equipment throughout the month of April in conjunction with National Recycling Month and will now distribute the items to underserved youth. Since the launch of the campaign in 2014, more than 500 pairs of soccer cleats, shin guards and soccer balls have been distributed to over 150 children within the community.
Also on Wednesday, Sporting KC goalkeeper Jon Kempin and the United States Under-23 Men's National Team will play a match against Mexico's U-23 National Team. It is the first domestic training camp for the U.S. U-23s under new head coach Andy Herzog. The international friendly will kick off at 10 p.m. CT at StubHub Center in Carson, California and will be nationally broadcast live on UniMas and Univision Deportes Network.
FC Kansas City will play the first National Women's Soccer League match at Swope Soccer Village at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday against the Seattle Reign in a rematch of the 2014 NWSL Championship. Thursday's match will be a send-off for the team's four players joining the U.S. Women's National Team in preparation for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup. On Saturday, Sporting Park will host Kansas State University's 2015 Purple/White Spring football game at 3 p.m. CT. A limited number of tickets remain available for standing-room only, Bud Light Landing and UMB Field Club areas by calling 1-800-221-CATS. Led by head coach Bill Snyder, Kansas State finished the 2014 season with a 9-4 record, including a 7-2 mark in the Big 12 Conference, and ranked No. 18 in the country.
Sporting Kansas City defender Erik Palmer-Brown is with the United States Under-20 Men's National Team this week for a training camp in Linz, Austria. The U.S. squad, led by head coach Tab Ramos, will play Qatar U-20's on Tuesday and Croatia U-20's on Saturday at Red Bull Arena in Wals-Siezenheim, Austria.
In addition, Sporting Kansas City Academy U-16 defender Jaylin Lindsey is on the United States Under-15 Boys' National Team roster for the 12th Tournament Delle Nazioni that begins this week in Europe. The U.S. will kick off the competition against CONCACAF rivals Costa Rica on Saturday before rounding out Group C play against Slovenia and Croatia.
The Sporting Kansas City Academy U-16's and U-18's will play a U.S. Soccer Development Academy doubleheader against Texans SC Houston at Swope Soccer Village on Saturday. The U-18's (9-7-4, 6th place) will open at 10 a.m. CT, followed by the U-16's (4-6-10, 9th place) at 12:30 p.m. CT. Both matches are free and open to the public to attend.
