Throughout the month of April -- in recognition of National Recycling Month -- the
Sporting Club Network
, presented by Price Chopper, and
The Victory Project
hosted Recycle Your Game soccer equipment drives at Sporting Kansas City home games, as well as around the community to collect gently used soccer gear. The initiative seeks to provide youth players in underserved communities with the proper equipment they need to play and enjoy the game.
With the help of Sporting Kansas City fans and the community, the Recycle Your Game distribution mini-clinic was able to serve youth from a local Boys and Girls Club, as well as participants of the
Mattie Rhodes Center's Soccer for Success program
. Each of the 75 participants received donated cleats, shin guards and a soccer ball before a fun mini-clinic headlined by Sporting Kansas City staff and players.
The clinic was held on Earth Day (April 22) at 9th & Van Brunt Athletic Fields Park in Kansas City, Missouri. Since the launch of the campaign in 2014, more than 500 pairs of soccer cleats, shin guards and soccer balls have been distributed to over 150 children within the community.
