The national team recognition keeps coming for the Sporting Kansas City organization as U.S. Soccer announced on Wednesday the roster for the 2015 Boy's National Team Futures training camp. Sporting KC Academy winger Mason Visconti is one of the 58 players that will participate in the inaugural camp that will run from May 23-26 at the US. Soccer National Training Center in Carson, California.

"Mason is a good kid with a bright future," Sporting KC Academy Director of Coaching Jon Parry said. "He is extremely versatile and has been a welcome addition to the Sporting KC Academy. This is an exciting opportunity for him and for our program."

The Futures training camp was started this year by U.S. Soccer Director of Scouting Tony Lepore with the goal of identifying the most talented players in the '00 and '01 birth year that are on a later physical development growth path.

“We are scouting with a long term objective by focusing our evaluation and selection on the qualities needed to become a National Team player in the future,” Lepore said. “The Futures Camp recognizes that players in these younger age groups who can typically have the biggest impact and make a difference are the ones who are physically superior and more mature, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that they are the most talented. When scouting young players among the same age group, we see big differences in performance based on birth month and maturity.”

Visconti is in his second year in the Sporting KC Academy after joining the program in 2014 via open tryouts. The 14-year-old Lee's Summit native is a regular contributor for the Sporting KC U-14s that are currently in first place in the 2015 Spring Midwest Regional League U-15 Premier I Division Red and have clinched a spot at the 2015 US Youth Soccer Regionals in June. Visconti also has five goals in seven matches in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy League.
