The Swope Park Rangers have signed forward Mark Anthony Gonzalez, the club announced on Wednesday. The addition brings the number of players on the roster to 11 as the Rangers prepare to open their preseason camp next month. Gonzalez will join the club pending the receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
Gonzalez signs for the Rangers having enjoyed a four-year career at the University of Evansville, where he made 71 appearances for the Purple Aces, tallying 27 goals and six assists. The 21-year-old was named to the Missouri Valley Conference First Team three times and was also selected to the NSCAA/Continental Tire All-Midwest Region Second Team as a sophomore and as a senior. The Bolton, Ontario native was also a MVC All-Freshman Team selection in 2012.
In addition to his college achievements, Gonzalez played for Sigma FC in the League1 Ontario division, scoring three goals in eight games in 2014. He also spent time with Toronto FC’s Academy in the USL Premier Development League in 2015, making seven appearances and again striking three times.
“I’m very excited and thankful for this tremendous opportunity,” Gonzalez said. “I’m looking forward to starting the next chapter of my career with the Swope Park Rangers.”
“Mark is a player that has been followed by our staff,” Swope Park Rangers head coach Marc Dos Santos said. “He’s a versatile attacking player that could play behind the striker or as a winger. I believe he has excellent qualities and will definitely be able to grow and gain more experience at this level.”
