Sporting KC kicks off preseason today in Tucson

Seems like just yesterday that Saad Abdul-Salaam's penalty kick hit both posts and caromed away from the goal, keeping the Portland Timbers' hopes alive of winning the penalty kick shootout in the 2015 Western Conference Playoffs Knockout Round. But today, the page will finally turn from 2015 to 2016 as the first day of preseason, presented by Children's Mercy, kicks off in Tucson, Arizona.

Sporting KC will spend two weeks training in Tucson during the first leg of preseason with three scrimmages on the schedule (opponents TBD). Peter Vermes has 30 players in Arizona with Matt Besler (USA) and Marcel de Jong (Canada) currently with their respective national teams and Daniel Salloi set to join the team during the first week of camp. The senior team players are joined by four non-roster invitees: two players who were selected in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, Swope Park Rangers goalkeeper Zac Lubin and a 25-year-old former U.S. youth international defender who is expected to join the Swope Park Rangers this week.
