Sporting Kansas City unveiled its new secondary jersey in a television spot that debuted Sunday, introducing the club’s “All for the City” marketing campaign for the 2016 season.
The secondary kit will be available to purchase beginning March 3 at 6 p.m. CT when Sporting KC hosts an official fan event at No Other Pub, a new entertainment venue located on the second level of the Kansas City Live! Block in the Power & Light District (1370 Grand Blvd.).
The free event will be open to the public and Sporting KC players will be in attendance, giving supporters a first look at the team before it travels to Seattle for the 2016 season opener on March 6. In addition, the Swope Park Rangers’ primary and secondary kits for the club’s inaugural USL season will be revealed and available for purchase.
In conjunction with the jersey launch at No Other Pub, Sporting KC’s new kit will go on sale that evening at mlsstore.com/SportingKC. The kit will be offered in short sleeve and long sleeve authentic styles and men’s, women’s and youth replica styles. A matching anthem jacket will also be available to buy.
“Our two jerseys that are carrying over from last year are very fashion-forward, so we needed the new secondary kit to have a strong design sense,” said John Moncke, Sporting Kansas City’s Vice President of Stadium and Brand Revenue. “We started designing this jersey right after the launch of the previous secondary kit in March 2014, and we knew we wanted to create something influenced by the original stripes.”
Sporting Kansas City’s new jersey features a dark indigo background with tonal blue, horizontal stripes. Additional elements include the following:
- Sporting Blue Henley collar with “SKC” initials on the back neck
- adidas 3 Stripes along the sides of the jersey (removed from the shoulders)
- Metallic silver names, numbers and Ivy Funds word mark
- Two silver stars above the Sporting KC crest for MLS Cup wins in 2000 and 2013
- Striped “SKC” socks
- Four-way stretch-woven shorts
The secondary kit will accompany Sporting Kansas City’s windowpane primary jersey and white argyle third kit — both introduced last year — throughout the 2016 season. A complementary anthem jacket will be worn by players on the field before matches, making Sporting KC the only MLS club to have anthem jackets for each uniform.
