The first was a jaw-dropping golazo. The second was a simple finish following a brilliant passing sequence.
Dom Dwyer bagged the sixth brace of his MLS career on Saturday, powering Sporting KC to a 2-1 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Joining the father-to-be on MLSsoccer.com's Team of the Week is holding midfielder Soni Mustivar, who controlled the center of the pitch with five tackles, three interceptions and nearly 92 percent passing accuracy as Sporting KC enjoyed two-thirds of possession in Saturday's raucous home opener.
In defense, Chance Myers landed as spot on Goal.com's Team of the Week after recording an assist on Dwyer's second score in the 41st minute. The perfectly weighted cross from the right edge of the penalty area was his 16th career assist in the regular season and his eighth of the game-winning variety.
Dwyer's double gives him 47 career goals for Sporting KC across all competitions, now third most in club history. He will go head-to-head on Sunday with another elite forward as Toronto FC visits Children's Mercy Park for a nationally televised contest on FS1 and FOX Deportes at 6 p.m. CT. A limited number of tickets for the marquee matchup are available at Ticketmaster.com.
