Sporting Kansas City defender Erik Palmer-Brown and FC Porto B won the 2015-16 LigaPro on Sunday with a 3-1 victory over rival Benfica B. It was the first league title for FC Porto B, the reserve squad of storied Portuguese first division side FC Porto.

Palmer-Brown joined FC Porto on a year-long loan in February. The Sporting KC homegrown defender appeared in 10 games over the second half of the season, helping the club clinch the second division title. In Palmer-Brown’s 10 appearances, Porto B went 6-2-2 with a +9 goal differential.

Porto B’s second division title was the first by a reserve side since 1983/84 Real Madrid Castilla. Per Liga Portugal guidelines, reserve sides are unable to earn promotion to the first division nor play in cup competitions.

Sporting KC signed Palmer-Brown to a homegrown contract in August 2013. The Kansas City native has made 10 MLS appearances for the club and has represented Sporting KC in the Chipotle Homegrown Game in 2014 and 2015.
