Sporting Kansas City Under-18 Academy and Swope Park Rangers midfielder Felipe Hernandez appeared in all three matches for the United States Under-19 Men's National Team at the 2016 Stevan-Vilotic Cele Tournament, which concluded today in Subotica, Serbia with the U.S. earning a 2-1 victory over Hungary.
Hernandez, 18, made his U.S. youth national team debut when he came off the bench in a 2-1 loss to the hosts Serbia on Sept. 1 at City Stadium. The Nashville, Tennessee native than collected a second cap in as many days as a second-half substitute in a 2-0 defeat to France at Senta Stadium.
The United States, led by head coach Brad Friedel, ended the competition on a positive note earlier today with a 2-1 win against Hungary on goals in back-to-back minutes from Ethan Zubak (LA Galaxy) and Djordje Mihailovic (Chicago Fire). Hernandez started and played the full 90 minutes in the American midfield.
Hernandez joined the Sporting KC Academy in 2014 after playing for Sporting Nashville Heroes, a Sporting Club Network Academy Affiliate, and signed with the Swope Park Rangers in August. He has appeared in exhibition matches for both the Rangers and Sporting Kansas City to date as a member of the Sporting KC Academy.
The Sporting KC Academy U-18's will kick off their 2016-17 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season this weekend by traveling to play Texans SC Houston on Saturday and Texas Rush on Sunday.
