On April 18, GSI Sports and the Sporting Club Network, presented by Price Chopper, renewed a new long-term partnership, centered around a strategic goal to provide a unified resource structure aimed at creating the best College Showcase events and experience in the Midwest.
This major news follows the announcement of more than 175 youth players committing to collegiate programs from Sporting KC’s Academy and Academy Affiliate programs ahead of this fall, and is a major move in the SCN supporting the collegiate player development pathway moving forward.
As part of this new Sporting Club Network agreement, both entities will partner to rebrand the existing GSI College Showcase as “SHOWCASE KC”, with the first edition of the new and improved event set to take place Nov. 17-19, 2017. This event will be played throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area at various world class turf facilities, including the Wyandotte County Youth Soccer Complex in Kansas City, Kansas, set to open later this year.
The 2017 SHOWCASE KC tournament is an annual invitational showcase for young men and women soccer players who want to play at the college level. All who participate will demonstrate their talents and abilities to men's and women's college coaches from across the Midwest and beyond. More than 600 collegiate coaches from Divisions I, II, III, NAIA, and NJCAA are invited to scout players.
At last year’s event, over 230 college coaches attended the GSI College Showcase, with over 34 state championship-winning youth teams attending the competition. This event is already regarded as one of the finest collegiate showcase tournaments in the Midwest, and the Sporting Club Network is excited to continue to add value to this event for years to come.
The 2017 SHOWCASE KC will welcome all boys and girls competitive travel teams ages U-15 through U-19 and provide those teams with a three-game guarantee. In addition, the Sporting Club Network will be working alongside GSI to create additional opportunities for participating teams, coaches, players and parents to learn more about the college recruitment process.
Included in these ancillary events will be combines for players to gain additional exposure in front of college staff, coaching education opportunities for youth and collegiate coaches to learn from Sporting KC’s technical staff, and even college panels to educate parents and players on the ins and outs of college soccer recruiting.
