Sporting Kansas City will look to replicate a great performance in Wednesday's 4-0 win U.S. Open Cup win over Minnesota United when they travel to face the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday. Elsewhere across the league, three matches fit the national television bill in Week 16 from Saturday to Sunday. We take a glance at each matchup below.
New York City FC vs. Seattle Sounders FC | 12 p.m. CT Saturday, ESPN & ESPN Deportes
Evenly matched opposition between the Eastern Conference's third-place club New York City FC (7-5-3, 24 points) and the Western Conference sixth-place team Seattle (5-6-4, 19 points) will play out at Yankee Stadium. The Sounders will look to keep their good rhythm after taking nine points from their previous four matches. New York City FC will seek to recover from their performance after a tough 1-0 Open Cup loss in the New York derby against the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday. The game will be broadcast live in English on ESPN and in Spanish on ESPN Deportes.
LA Galaxy vs. Houston Dynamo | 10 p.m. CT Saturday, Facebook Live & UniMas
At eighth place in the Western Conference, LA Galaxy (5-5-3, 18 points) is among the best away teams in the MLS (4-2-1) but has struggled to perform at home (1-3-2). They will try to outplay their opponent Houston Dynamo (7-6-2, 23 points), who have lost three of their last five games. Houston has been sensational at home, but has lost six out of their seven away matches. The Galaxy, meanwhile, are always a dangerous offensive outfit with their main goal scorer Romain Alessandrini, who has found the net six times this season.
Philadelphia Union vs. New York Red Bulls | 4 p.m. CT Sunday, ESPN & ESPN Deportes
Only four points separate the Philadelphia Union (4-6-4, 16 points) from the New York Red Bulls (6-7-2, 20 points). These teams will go head-to-head Sunday at Talen Energy Stadium in Philadelphia. The Union went winless in their past two MLS matches before beating Harrisburg City Islanders 3-1 in the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday. The New York Red Bulls will use the motivation gained in their recent Open Cup win in the New York derby to take points on the road, led by their top scorer Bradley Wright-Phillips and his six goals. Plenty of individual quality will be on display as Alejandro Bedoya and Philadelphia aim to outgun the team from the Big Apple.
