On the same day their senior teams squared off in the penultimate round of the 2017 MLS regular season at Children's Mercy Park, the Sporting KC and Houston Dynamo academies met for a tripleheader Sunday at sunny Swope Soccer Village
The Sporting KC U-19s effectively stole the headlines, using goals from five different players to post an emphatic 5-0 victory and return to winning ways after dropping their previous two matches.
Head coach Jon Parry's men broke through in the 16th minute on a strike from Sebastian Cruz before the floodgates opened in the second half. Roman Knox, Wilson Harris, Mason Visconti and Sporting KC homegrown signing Gianluca Busio all found the back of the net during an excellent performance that saw the U-19s improve to 3-2-0 (9 points) in the 2017-18 U.S. Soccer Development Academy campaign.
The Sporting KC U-15s and U-17s experienced different fortunes, suffering a pair of narrow defeats. The U-15s took a 2-0 loss to drop to 1-4-0 on the season, while the U-17s fell short in a 3-2 thriller that included two successful penalty kicks from Jahon Rad. The result dropped head coach Rumbani Munthali's side to 3-2-0 in the early stages of the Development Academy.
