In celebration of a long-standing Boxing Day tradition, Sporting KC, the National World War I Museum and Memorial and The Soccer Lot will host The Truce 3v3 Soccer Tournament on Tuesday, Dec. 26.

In conjunction with the soccer tournament, all fans are welcome to attend the Boxing Day Premier League Watch Party inside the National World War I Museum and Memorial. Admittance to the watch party is free, and food and beverage packages are available for all ages. Click here to RSVP for the Watch Party, which will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. CT.

Upon conclusion of the 3v3 tournament, the official Truce After-Party will be held at The Soccer Lot, located at nearby 2525 Jefferson St. The indoor after-party will include beer, drinks, yard games and more soccer from 2-4 p.m. CT.

Following a tradition that began in 2013, the 2017 Truce Tournament comes on the 103rd anniversary of World War I and pays homage to the time-honored story of the Christmas Truce. On Christmas Day 1914, the brutal battles of World War I temporarily subsided, as soldiers laid down their arms to celebrate the Christmas holiday. Combatants from opposing sides ventured into “no-man’s land” to exchange gifts, sing carols and play soccer.

The Boxing Day holiday, celebrated on Dec. 26, is synonymous with a day full of soccer matches played across the United Kingdom. Eight English Premier League matches will unfold on Boxing Day 2017, highlighted by Manchester United vs. Burnley at 9 a.m. CT and Liverpool vs. Swansea City at 11:30 a.m. CT.
