Major League Soccer announced today that the 2018 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas will take place on Jan. 19 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.
Sporting Kansas City currently holds four picks in next month’s SuperDraft, including two in the first round (No. 13 and 18 overall) and two in the fourth and final round (No. 75 and 82 overall).
Prior to the draft, the 2018 adidas MLS Player Combine will run from Jan. 11-17 at Orlando City Stadium. An invited group of elite college, youth and international players will participate at the combine, where technical staffs from all 23 MLS clubs will be in attendance for the showcase.
The 2018 MLS SuperDraft in Philadelphia serves as a perennial component of the United Soccer Coaches Convention, which includes MLS-led programming on an annual basis. The first two rounds of the SuperDraft will be held in Philadelphia, while the third and fourth rounds will be held via conference call on Jan. 21.
Sporting Kansas City will report to Scottsdale, Arizona on Jan. 22 for the first leg of its 2018 preseason, presented by Children’s Mercy. The club will play up to three preseason scrimmages during the first phase before briefly returning to Kansas City in early February. Manager Peter Vermes’ men will then venture back to Arizona for the Mobile Mini Sun Cup, where the team will play four matches between Feb. 14-24.
