A pair of Sporting Kansas City Homegrown players and another two Sporting KC Academy players have been called in to the inaugural U.S. Soccer Men’s Youth National Team Summit. The camp will be held at Lakewood Ranch in Florida, and will span from January 2-11 with all National Teams from Under-16s through Under-20s in attendance.
Sporting KC has players represented in four of the five rosters, led by Homegrown signings Gianluca Busio and Jaylin Lindsey, who are selected for the U-17 and U-20 squads, respectively.
Joining that duo are Sporting KC Academy products Cameron Duke, who is on the U.S. U-18 roster, and Tyler Freeman, who is included on the U-16 squad.
Busio and Lindsey each signed Homegrown contracts with Sporting KC in the fall as each enjoyed standout years with the U.S. Soccer YNT program. Busio scored a team-leading five goals in the CONCACAF U-15 Championship in August as the U.S. finished in second place before Lindsey helped the U.S. to a Quarterfinal appearance at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in October.
Overland Park, Kansas native Duke appeared in his first U.S. U-18 camp during a late November visit to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California while Freeman – who is from Shawnee, Kansas – was a regular on the U.S. U-14s throughout 2017 after first being selected for the squad in November 2016.
Under U.S. Soccer Youth Technical Director Tab Ramos, 153 players were selected across the five rosters, including 142 with U.S. Soccer Development Academy ties.
