Five Academy products feature for SPR, all as teenagers

Jaylin Lindsey - Swope Park Rangers vs. Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC - April 4, 2018

The Swope Park Rangers moved into first place in the USL's Western Conference on Wednesday with a 1-0 win over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.

And they did so with five Sporting KC Academy products on the field logging professional minutes as teenagers.

The youngest of the group, 15-year-old midfielder Gianluca Busio, contributed the game-winning assist just seven minutes into his pro debut.

Seventeen-year-old Jaylin Lindsey and 19-year-old Wan Kuzain Wan Kamal were also introduced in the starting lineup under the bright lights at Children's Mercy Park.

Lindsey went the full 90 minutes at right back as the Rangers recorded their first clean sheet of the season. Kuzain did his part in the shutout too from the defensive midfield position, while also completing 41 of 42 passes.

In fact, it's safe to say all five passed the test -- pun very much intended.

Player Passing Accuracy
     Jaylin Lindsey: 50 of 58 (86.2%)
     Gianluca Busio: 47 of 50 (94%)
Wan Kuzain Wan Kamal: 41 of 42 (97.6%)
     Felipe Hernandez: 12 of 12 (100%)
     Camilo Benitez: 1 of 2 (50%)
     TOTAL = 151 of 164 (92.1%)

Busio becomes the seventh youngest player to debut in USL or MLS history and he earned the praise of Rangers manager Paulo Nagamura.

Freddy Adu (14 years, 10 months, 2 days)
Chris Durkin (15 years, 2 months, 15 days)
     Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez (15 years, 3 months, 14 days)
Efrain Alvarez (15 years, 3 months, 19 days)
Alphonso Davies 15 years, 5 months, 1 day)
Christian Koontz (15 years, 7 months, 18 days)
Gianluca Busio (15 years, 10 months, 8 days)
Ray Serrano (15 years, 10 months, 8 days)

"I thought he did very well," Nagamura said postgame. "Not many people know that the kid is 15 years old and he has tremendous qualities. It is not easy to put a 15 year old in a professional match and do well. He handled himself really well during the game. He gave a great pass to Tyler on the first goal. I was really pleased with his performance.

"I think (Lindsey) also did really well. He was solid in the back. He was working up and down when we had the ball. I was really pleased with how the young guys came on, stepped up and performed really well today."
